Other Activities

Throughout the year the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai, is engaged in various programmes. Special mention can be made of the following activities:

Youth Camps: Youth Camps are held in April & May for girls & boys in order to introduce them to Gandhian Thought and for inculcating a spirit of Peace, Love and Brotherhood among the youth.

Kranti Din: 9th August is celebrated as Kranti Din, to mark the Quit India Movement. Members of various Gandhian Institutions such as Yuvak Biradari, Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal etc, come to Mani Bhavan on this day to pay their respects to Freedom Fighters.

Gandhi Nirvan Din (Martyrs Day): On 30th January, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is observed in Mani Bhavan by Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai and Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya with mass spinning, prayers, bhajans and prayers of all religions (Sarva Dharma Prathana).

Kasturba Nirvan Din: On 22nd February, the death anniversary of Kasturba is observed as Kasturba Nirvan Din. A Bhajan Competition for women is organized on this day.

Balwadis and Coaching Classes: In Mumbai the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi runs Balwadis and Coaching Classes for economically backward children.

Street Children Project: Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai, runs a Street children project for the school going children below 10 years at Mahila Sangh 'D' Ward and gives them nutritious food.

Kasturba Gandhi Women's Empowerment Scheme: The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai has initiated a new activity of an Art and crafts course / warli Painting etc. under the Kasturba Gandhi Women's Empowerment Scheme.

The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai, works in collaboration with several Gandhian organization including Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya, the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal, Mahila Sangh 'D' Ward, Yuvak Biradari, Kushtarog Nivaran Samiti, Nirmittee sanstha and several other women's organizations.
